The species we attend most often across the Central Coast. Non-venomous but large and powerful, adults commonly reach two to three metres in length. Their black and yellow pattern provides excellent camouflage among sandstone, trees and roof spaces. Where safe, they may be left in place, but larger animals should only be handled by trained professionals.

Red-bellied Black Snake

Frequently encountered around creeks, wetlands, drainage channels, dams and waterfront properties. Although generally defensive rather than aggressive, they are highly venomous and should never be approached.

Green Tree Snake

Regularly found in gardens, shrubs and bushland areas throughout the region. Their bright green colouring allows them to blend into dense vegetation.

Golden-crowned Snake

A small nocturnal species commonly found beneath rocks, timber and garden materials, particularly in bushland suburbs and sandstone areas.

Eastern Water Dragon

Lace Monitor

Red-bellied Black Snakes are more common around waterways because of the frog populations those waterways support. Eastern Water Dragons frequently appear along foreshore areas and in parks.

Is a python in the roof normal on the Central Coast?

How do I tell a Diamond Python from a Red-bellied Black Snake?
Diamond Pythons are large and heavy-bodied, with yellow or cream markings on a black background. Red-bellied Black Snakes are glossy black with a distinctive red or pink underside. If it is safe to do so, send a photo from a distance and our catcher can often identify the species before arriving.

Should I try to remove the snake myself?
